2D1N exploring Shoalhaven to celebrate post NSW COVID Lockdown Chapter 2.
This trip in general is very exciting and relaxing for us as all of the places that we explore are new to us!
The first stop is Milkwood Bakey.
As my wife and I had visited the Famous Berry Donut Van on our previous trip, this time we had our breakfast at Milkwood Bakery instead.
We ordered Cauliflower Pecorino Pie and Lentil Mushroom Pie (above) 😋
Next stop is another 30 minutes drive – Jim's Wild Oyster 🦪
Jim's Wild Oyster is family owned and operated oyster farm which was established in 1979.
This place is deceivingly popular. Due to the wet weather, only my wife and I who dine-in there. However, as we were enjoying our foods, there are countless people come and go for oyster takeaways! My wife and I ordered the a dozen of Rock Oysters, Grilled Oysters – Kilpatrick, Mornay, and Garlic/Herb + Cheese. They all tastes amazingly fresh!
Definitely a must stop for our next journey to the south.
Pile of used oyster cages
Last but not least, Jim himself kindly greet the customers making sure we had a good time :)
After we are full, from Jim's Wild Oyster we went to visit a small locally owned baby shop – Kate Inglish Designs. We were welcomed by Kate herself. She was very warm and accomodating. My wife really loves how Kate put everything together in her shop.
No, we are not taking any pictures of her shop.
As the weather was very wet and there is not much you can do, we have an afternoon tea at 5 little pigs. Though they are very popular, our experience is only so so. We had their Salt & Vinegar Hash Browns which was a bit of letdown.
To finish off our first day, we had dinner at wildginger, followed by wings and gins at Huskisson Hotel🍹
The Five Islands Oolong Old Tom Gin is out of this world!
Proudly a local gin with international awards🏅
With a dark sky and very determined clouds that keeps pouring down the water without ceasing, my wife and I decided to sleep in until it was around 10 AM where we need to be out by 11 AM before the motel kicks us out🦶
No breakfast, nor brunch. Straight to lunch at the Butter Factory 🏭
Confit Duck Leg, Caramelised Onion Pastry, Parsnip,
Steamed Greens
🦆
New York Cut Striploin, Duck Fat Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Grilled Zucchini, Pepper Cream
🗽
The food and the service are excellent, yet, being a man, I am still fairly certain that my steak is better. That being said, the Pepper Cream is really flavourful ... so, I guess it explains the under-seasoned steak.
We also ordered another dish called Truffled Mushroom Pithivier, Tendrils, Blue Cheese Cream 🧀
(Pithivier appears to be a fancy word for pie.)
My wife and I are both agreed that this is the best dish that we had at Butter Factory that day.
To my disappointment, they don't offer any dairy or butter-based products. It appears that the name Butter Factor comes from the fact that the land where the restaurant is was where Shoalhaven's first and largest butter factory in New South Wales back in 1889.
The last stop of this journey is the famous and historic Robertson Pie Shop (which is also supposed to include a quick stop at the Big Potato, but again, it too wet 🌧️).
We were told by the ladies at the counter that they are famous for their sweet pies and recommend the Peach with Cream for us, which we really enjoyed! We would really love to go back and try more of their pies!
Inside: Peach Pie with creams
We love the oldish look of the shop, yet, very clean and well-mantained!
